Three added to ballot at Clinton caucus
Three more names have been added to the Clinton ballot, following the Friday afternoon caucus.
The caucus created a contested race for town collector, with Tara Coyne, of 66 Fairmount St., joining Meghan Ball, 177 Cedar St., to fill a one-year unexpired term, resulting from the death of former collector Kathy O’Malley. Ball, the assistant collector who has been serving as the acting collector, filed papers to run for the office.
Coyne, who cited her business experience as qualification for the office, said she did not go through the paper process because she and her husband, Clinton Sgt. Brian Coyne, had to make sure they could schedule not only campaigning, but her working in the office while managing a young family. She said Brian Coyne works “difficult” hours and the couple have children as young as 1.
In addition, Frances Purcell, of Ridgefield Circle, a volunteer at the Bigelow Free Public Library, was nominated to be on the ballot for a vacant seat on the Board of Library Trustees.
And Ellen Murphy Naughton, of 13 Haskell Ave., accepted nomination to a five-year seat on the Housing Authority. Naughton, the wife of Rep. Harold Naughton Jr., said she feels it is important “if you have the time to spend, to give back to your community.” The Housing Authority is important given the economic situation, she said.
Town Clerk Phil Boyce told the 40 people attending the caucus that the nomination session was a procedure approved by town meeting in 1971.
The caucus is the final step to finalize the ballot for the June 25 Clinton election.
Four people are on the ballot for two, three-year seats on the Board of Selectmen: incumbents Mary Rose Dickhaut, 11 Harris St., and David Sargent, 45 Front St., and former selectmen Marc Iacobucci, 29 Lane Ave., and Kevin Haley, 19 Barrett St. No one was added at the caucus.
Two people are vying for a two-year term on the School Committee, filling the rest of the term of Kelly Turcotte: Joel Bates, 39 Dewey St., and Timothy Poynton, 1 Horseshoe Lane.
For Housing Authority, looking to serve one year to fill an unexpired term, are Sam Gonyea, 66 Wilson St., and Marie Navedo, 289 Main St.
